Leslie Parsons – Statement
In my artwork, whether it’s transparent watercolor or life drawing, my goal is the same. I’m interested in capturing the organic qualities, the flow of energy, the gesture, the spark. I ask myself, What excites me about this particular subject? It might be the line, the light, the rhythm, the composition. What’s interesting about this? Can I capture it in time? Will I be able to do it justice?
I often use polypropylene synthetic paper, such as Yupo, which is a plastic. This ‘paper’ is a lot of fun to work with, but the color doesn’t always adhere. Sometimes the paint sticks, sometimes it rolls right off. So there’s an element of surprise, which I enjoy!
